A68 closed as firefighters tackle building blaze in Jedburgh

Fire crews are in attendance at a building fire in Jedburgh, which has forced the closure of the A68 road.

The fire was first reported to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) at around 3.20am on Tuesday, September 15.

A spokesperson confirmed four appliances had been dispatched to the scene.

The A68 road, which runs through the town, has been closed in both directions between Jedburgh and Carter Bar, according to Traffic Scotland.

A police spokesperson said: “The A68, Newcastle Road, has been closed from Jedburgh to the Bairnkine road due to a building fire reported around 3.55am on Tuesday, September 15.

“Emergency services are in attendance. Enquiries are ongoing. Motorists should use an alternative route.”
