An adorable endangered pygmy hippo calf has been pictured enjoying a Christmas cracker at Edinburgh Zoo.
Eight-month-old Amara is seen getting into the festive spirit with the cracker, which contained hay and monkey nuts – a firm favourite of hers.
The crackers were made by visitors who attended the Breakfast with the Clauses events at the zoo.
They’re not the only animals in the zoo to get in a Christmas mood recently – with the monkeys being treated to Christmas presents earlier this week.
Female calf Amara, baby to visitor favourites Otto and Gloria, was welcomed to the zoo back in April this year.
Amara, which means grace, was named earlier this year by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, which supports the wildlife conservation charity’s projects around the world and in the RZSS WildGenes laboratory.
Pygmy hippos are native to West Africa and are under threat from habitat destruction causing populations to decline at a rapid rate.
Earlier this month, it was confirmed that the zoo’s two giant pandas, Yang Guang and Tian Tian, would be staying in Scotland for another two years.
