A four-month old anteater pup at Edinburgh Zoo has been confirmed as a boy after a health check.
Snoot was born to mum Gizmo and dad Zeferino on April 5.
The pup is spending some short periods of time away with his mum, which has allowed keepers at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) to safely examine him for the first time.
RZSSGiant anteaters are native to Central and South America, and are listed as vulnerable to extinction.
The species carries its young piggy-back style for up to 10 months, offering protection from predators, camouflage while foraging and as a bonding technique.
Visitors can still spot Snoot hitching a ride on Gizmo’s back as the pair explore their hilltop habitat.
