Dozens of officers including armed police descended on a village following reports of a serious assault.
At least ten police vans arrived at Edmonstone Terrace, Danderhall, Midlothian, on Sunday afternoon.
One man was seen standing on a rooftop and was later arrested in a garden by officers wearing riot gear.
Four men — aged 33, 34, and two of 17 — were arrested and charged in connection with the incident and are expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date.
A 35-year-old man was treated at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with serious but non life-threatening injuries.
One resident told STV News: “I’ve never seen so many police officers in one place or seen cops carrying guns in the village.
“There were police cars and vans backed up all the way along the street.
“We heard that someone had been hurt and then we saw was this guy on a house roof for quite some time. He eventually came down and was arrested.”
Police Scotland confirmed they attended the street in the former mining village at 2.40pm following a reported disturbance.
A spokesman added: “A multi-agency response took place and one man, 35, was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment to serious but non-life threatening injuries.
“Four men, aged 33, 34, 17, and 17 have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. They are expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date.
“Further enquiries are ongoing.”
