An iconic clock in Edinburgh which famously runs three minutes fast will not change to the correct time on New Year’s Eve – for the first time in nearly 120 years.
The Balmoral Clock, above the Balmoral Hotel, on Princes Street, runs three minutes ahead of time to help people catch their train on time at nearby Waverley Station.
Hogmanay is the only day the time is corrected in order to mark the bells at midnight during the world famous street party in Edinburgh.
But this year owners have announced the clock time will not be changed – after stating they would ‘gladly’ have three minutes less of 2020.
For the first time in 118 year the clock will ring in new year three minutes early.
The Balmoral, owned by Rocco Forte Hotels, posted on social media: “Public service announcement.
“Our majestic clock which runs 3 minutes fast is only correct on December 31.
“However, for the first time in 118 years, it will remain on Balmoral Standard Time (BST) as we would gladly have three minutes less of 2020 and be the first to bring in 2021.”
