An area has been cordoned off at Silverknowes beach after the discovery on Monday morning.
Police have launched an investigation as they try to identify the man and establish the circumstances. They said enquiries were at an early stage.
A spokeswoman said: “We received a report of a man’s body found near Silverknowes beach, Edinburgh, around 9am on Monday.
“Officers and the ambulance service are currently in attendance.
“Enquiries are at an early stage to establish the identity of the man and the full circumstances.”
