A major road in Edinburgh has been locked down by police following the discovery of a man’s body.
Officers closed off a section of Queensferry Road crossing Dean Bridge shortly after 10.30am on Wednesday amid reports of the find on a footpath.
The route, leading from the city centre to the Stockbridge area of the capital, remains closed while an investigation continues.
Emergency services attended the incident, however the 53-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
His next of kin has now been informed, officers confirmed.
Traffic including local buses were initially diverted away from the area with motorists urged to plan an alternative journey.
A stretch of the pathway running parallel to the Water of Leith has also been shut off to pedestrians.
The road has since been reopened.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of the body of a 53-year-old man beneath Dean Bridge in Edinburgh shortly after 10.30am on Wednesday, 27 April.
“Emergency services attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin has been made aware.
“The death is being treated as unexplained but there are no apparent suspicious circumstances.”
