Body of man recovered from water at Devil's Pulpit

The body of a man has been recovered from the water at a popular beauty spot near Stirling.

Emergency services including police, fire crews and mountain rescue were called to reports of a concern for a person at Finnich Glen near the Devil’s Pulpit.

The alarm was raised around 1.30pm on Wednesday with members of the public urged to avoid the area and a number of roads and the car park at the site were closed.

Police confirmed on Wednesday evening the body of a man was recovered from the water.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The A809 from Croftamie to Finnich Toll and the B834 at the junction to the A81 were closed but have now reopened.

Officers say there are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

A Police Scotland statement read: “Around 1.30pm on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 we received a report of a concern for a person at Finnich Glen, Stirlingshire.

“Emergency services, including Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and a mountain rescue team, attended and the body of a man was recovered from the water at Devil’s Pulpit.

“He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

“The A809 from Croftamie to Finnich Toll and the B834 at the junction to the A81 were closed to allow emergency services access. The roads have since re-opened.”
