Police and bomb disposal have been called to a construction site in Fife.

Emergency services were contacted over “a report of smoke rising from the ground” in Lochgelly’s Hugh Avenue, shortly after midday on Tuesday.

Road closures have been put in place around the street but there is not thought to be a serious risk to the public.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We received a report of smoke rising from the ground of a construction site on Hugh Avenue, Lochgelly, around 12.10pm on Tuesday, March 10.

“Officers are assisting the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.

“Local road closures are in place around Hugh Avenue. There is not believed to be any serious risk to the wider public.”
