Bond fanatic supplies specialist props for latest 007 movie

A 007 fanatic who named his shop after a Bond villain has supplied specialist props for No Time To Die.

Father-of-two Carl Morenikeji, 53, originally from London, has spent years supplying props for major films from his specialist vintage shop in Cupar, Fife.

Former marketer Carl’s 007 obsession began when he was ten and inspired a lifelong love of travel.

He opened his shop Scaramanga, named after the terrifying villain in 1976’s The Man With the Golden Gun, in 2006.

It specialises in restored vintage trunks, bags and padlocks, including two which will appear in No Time To Die, released tomorrow.

The Bond fan previously sold a vintage chest to actor Sir Christopher Lee who played the character.

Carl said: “When I worked out which film the order was for, I was overjoyed.

“As a lifelong James Bond fan, having the movie use two of my company’s products really is a dream come true.

“We’ve seen our products used in many film and TV productions over the years, but this is very special

“Some of the early Bond films are of their age really, but I would say Daniel Craig has put his mark on it, a much more mature Bond and he brings a lot more to the films.

“He’s got a real presence.

“They are all good in their own way, even Roger Moore who was perceived to be a little bit stiff in his acting but there are still some classic films that he did.”

Carl has also provided props for films such as The Hobbit, Maleficent, Paddington 2 and The Personal History of David Copperfield.

The link with the film industry began after a prop buyer working on the 2012 Tim Burton film Dark Shadows was interested in Scaramanga’s extensive collection of antique travel trunks.

She kept coming back for other films and word-of-mouth helped spread the brand name around.

The international appeal of the spy life was one of the Bond world’s strongest draws for Carl, who himself spent years travelling the world and has been to around 80 countries and eventually led to him meeting his future wife Emma while in Australia.

He said: “The Man With The Golden Gun was filmed in Thailand and the most recent one was filmed, parts of it, in Jamaica, sometimes he’s in South America, I love that.

“That’s what we do at Scaramanga too.

“I source items from around the world and travel to go and see them, but obviously I’m not a secret agent.”
