Staff at a care home in Falkirk came together to give a late resident who had no family the “send-off she deserved”.
Annette Fargie passed away this month at the age of 75 at Carrondale Care Home.
With no known relatives, the staff pitched in to hire a piper and a horse and cart for the funeral cortege.
Ms Fargie, who adored nature and horses, spent most of her life in care, but loved to visit her parents at the weekend when they were still alive.
Care home manager Tracy Gallacher described her as a “very kind, loving lady”, who had staff at her side when she passed away.
Ms Gallacher said: “She has left a huge hole in our hearts and will be sorely missed forever more.”
Ms Fargie, who was born in Falkirk and spent the last of her 12 years at the local care home, loved Disney.
Ms Gallacher said: “Annette was such a character and loved Disney.
“Staff took her to see Disney on Ice live in Glasgow, which she thoroughly enjoyed.
“Annette loved parties and Christmas time and the staff made sure she had a ball.”
The care home manager organised the pensioner’s funeral, ensuring mourners – as well as the horses – wore Ms Fargie’s favourite colour pink.
The service featured songs from The Greatest Showman, as well as her favourite from Alvin and the Chipmunks, which she watched “over and over again”.
Ms Gallacher added: “It was such a lovely but very emotional day for all staff who knew her.”
The care home manager said staff banded together to give Ms Fargie “the send-off she deserved”, adding: “The way all the staff handled the sad passing of Annette was just an example of how we care for our residents as part of one big family.
“The staff here have all went above and beyond once again to ensure Annette’s funeral was even very person-centred to her.”
