A cat had to have his leg amputated after being shot while missing for eight days from Denny.

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after Leo, a two-year-old black and white cat, left his home on the evening of Saturday, November 15.

He returned after being missing for eight days, following an extensive search by his owner.

However, Leo appeared scared and starving with a clear injury to his leg.

Leo’s owner rushed him to the emergency vets where they found three significant fractures to his right leg and an X-ray showed a bullet was lodged in his thigh.

After careful assessment by the vet, it was determined that Leo’s injured leg was to be amputated from the hip joint.

The owners contacted the police, but there was little that could be done without more information about where Leo had been.

He is now said to be on the mend but remains “very frightened by loud noises and movement”.

A Scottish SPCA Inspector said: “This is a very concerning case and we are keen to establish what happened.

“If anyone saw Leo leaving Barnego Road near Dunipace on Saturday, November 15 or returning on the evening of Sunday, November 23 we urge them to contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999

“Any information could be helpful in finding out what happened to Leo.

“If anyone saw anything suspicious or has any information at all that could help or has CCTV footage in that they could check it would be greatly appreciated.”

The Scottish SPCA is urging people to call the helpline to report acts of animal cruelty. To report any act of cruelty, please visit their ‘Contact Us’ page.
