Police searching for a man reported missing after a car crash in the Borders said concern is growing over his welfare.

Shane Donnelly, 26, who may also be known by the surname Barr, was involved in a two-vehicle crash on the A7 near the Lindean junction, north of Selkirk in the Borders, on Tuesday.

Emergency services attended the incident at about 7.10pm, but Mr Donnelly, who is believed to have been one of the drivers, was not at the scene.

A police helicopter and a dog unit have joined the search for him, with further air searches taking place on Thursday.

Mr Donnelly is described as 6ft tall, with brown hair, facial hair and blue eyes, and police said he may have been injured in the crash.

Police have appealed for anyone with dashcam footage from the A7 between Selkirk and Galashiels shortly before the crash to review it and contact them.

They have also asked people in the area to search sheds and outbuildings in case he has sought shelter.

Inspector David Aitchison said: “It has now been some time since this crash and concern is growing for Shane’s welfare.

“We believe he may have been injured in the collision and it is imperative that we trace him as soon as possible.

“Shane has links across the Scottish Borders and I am keen to hear from anyone who may have information about Shane’s whereabouts.

“Please get in touch, as we need to ensure his safety.

“I am also appealing directly to Shane, if you are reading this, please let us know you are safe and well.”

The female driver of the second car was taken by ambulance to Borders General Hospital for treatment.

Anyone with any information is asked to call 101, quoting reference 3784 of January 14, 2025.
