Controversial parking charges have come into force in a seaside town in East Lothian.
Despite a wave of protests from local residents and businesses, enforcement gets under way on Monday, June 1.
New meters and signs warning of the charges have been vandalised – delaying the initial start date by weeks.
Of the 40 meters, more than were covered with glue, foam and other products in an incident described as “unprecedented”.
Hundreds have signed petitions against the charges.
Business owners who are concerned about the impact on their trade have said they will continue to oppose them.
East Lothian Council says it is going to be important to reduce congestion during the summer.
North Berwick is the first East Lothian town to see parking charges introduced with plans for similar schemes in Musselburgh, Haddington, Dunbar and Tranent.
