A convicted sex offender has been found guilty of subjecting three young girls to repeated sexual assaults over three decades.

Alexander Williamson, 76, subjected his victims, who cannot be named for legal reasons, to abusive behaviour between September 1994 to March 2022.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard how Williamson started his abuse by preying on a 13-year-old girl at locations in the Scottish capital in 1994.

He repeatedly abused her until December 2018.

On various occasions between September 2002 and September 2009, he sexually abused a girl from the age of five.

The court heard how during that time, he forced the child to watch pornography, sexually assaulted her and performed a sex act in her presence.

Between September 2002 and September 2005, Williamson abused a young girl who was four when the abuse began.

On Monday, jurors returned guilty verdicts to a total of five charges – the accused had pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

The court heard that Williamson, of Craigmillar, Edinburgh, had a previous conviction from 1982 for a sexual offence to which he was fined.

Following conviction, defence solicitor advocate Stephanie Clinkscale said the court needed to get a report into Williamson’s background.  She said that she had no motion to make regarding bail for Williamson.

Judge John Morris KC ordered a report to be made available to the court for a hearing scheduled for later this year.

He added: “I am going to defer this matter for a report until a hearing for November 25 this year at this court.

“You will be remanded in custody meantime and you will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register.”

Williamson will be sentenced in Edinburgh next month.
