A drug driver has been jailed for killing his girlfriend in a head-on crash after failing to stop for the police.
Kane Farragher was jailed for over 12 years after admitting causing the death of Taylor Jenkins, from Edinburgh, in March.
The 24-year-old was the front seat passenger in a white BMW M135 that failed to stop when instructed by police, leading to a pursuit.
Farragher drove the wrong way on the carriageway of the A19 in Sunderland before colliding with a grey Volkswagen Sharan.
Ms Jenkins was pronounced dead at the scene, while another male passenger was seriously injured.
Farragher was swiftly arrested in the aftermath nearby, despite being captured on body-worn video telling officers he was not involved.
Farragher admitted causing Taylor’s death, as well as serious injuries to a male passenger, through dangerous driving, and a string of other driving offences.
The now 24-year-old went on to deny his involvement in a police interview, insisting he was not in the car when it had crashed.
He went on to admit to causing Taylor’s death, as well as serious injuries to a male passenger, through dangerous driving, and a string of other driving offences.
He was jailed for 12 years and nine months and handed a 13-year driving ban.
Paying tribute to Ms Jenkins, her family said: “Taylor was deeply loved and will be missed more than words can ever express.
“Her kindness, laughter, and beautiful spirit touched so many lives, and her memory will live on in all of us.
“During this incredibly difficult time, we ask for privacy and compassion as we grieve.
“We are grateful for the overwhelming support and kindness shown to our family.”
