Bus services in Edinburgh have been withdrawn on Halloween night due to “anti-social behaviour”.
Lothian Buses confirmed on Thursday evening services had been cancelled on its network after safety risks were identified on some routes.
Services on nine routes including the 3, 7, 8, 11, 24, 29, 38, 49 & 400 including towards the Royal Infirmary were affected.
The company said more services could be withdrawn if the incidents which are “outwith their control” continue.
A statement read: “Lothian adopt a zero-tolerance approach to all instances of antisocial behaviour.
“The safety and wellbeing of our colleagues and customers must be our main priority.
“Tonight (October 31 2024) due to antisocial behaviour, a number of services have been withdrawn from parts of our network.
“We sincerely apologise to any of our customers directly impacted and thank them for their patience – unfortunately, these circumstances are outwith our control.
“While regrettable, we will not hesitate to withdraw services from areas where the safety of our colleagues and customers is at risk.”
Police Scotland said on Thursday officers would be utilising Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act within Niddrie and Craigentinny as part of deterring firework-related crime.
A statement read: “This allows us to stop and search people and vehicles to identify any dangerous instruments or weapons, if we believe there is a possibility of serious violence or disorder taking place.
“Please help us keep Halloween safe for all of those enjoying the evening and report any concerns you have about potential criminal activity to us.”
