A social care worker has been banned from the profession after she stole more than £10,000 from a vulnerable service user.

Sandra Gray was convicted at Edinburgh Sheriff Court of accessing the person’s money at the Bank of Scotland branch in Newkirkgate between April 22 and November 20, 2023.

The ex-social care worker stole £12,000 from the bank account.

A report by the Scottish Social Services Council found that Gray “abused” her position and “caused financial harm” to the service user, who has since passed away.

The report read: “You have been convicted of a criminal offence relating to stealing money from a vulnerable service user.

“Your conduct is extremely serious and constitutes financial abuse and a gross breach of trust. Your actions represent conduct which is fundamentally incompatible with the principles of the social service profession.

“Your actions have resulted in significant financial detriment to a service user and represent clear values concerns.”
