An Edinburgh carer has been removed from the register after she allegedly stole money from a vulnerable woman.

Home care worker Neha Faizal was struck off after reportedly stealing a total of £100 from a female service user.

The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) said Faizal took £10 from the woman’s purse ‘without her knowledge or consent’ on June 8, 2023.

The carer also reportedly stole a total of £90 from the purse between May 6 and June 7, 2023.

The SSSC claim Faizal attempted to conceal any wrongdoing before the carer was presented with CCTV evidence.

The published report states: “The SSSC considers your behaviour to be dishonest and intentional in nature.

“It violates fundamental tenets of the profession in that it is an abuse of trust and confidence, and was deliberate and premeditated.

“The pattern of behaviours caused financial harm to a service user in your care and have a high likelihood of causing emotional harm if they were repeated. The SSSC held that the risk of repetition the behaviours was high.

“Given the high seriousness and risk of repetition there is a substantial public protection concern as a result of the behaviours.

“A reasonable member of the public, in receipt of all the information, would consider the reputation of the profession to be damaged as a result of your intentional and repetitive behaviours.

“There is a clear need to uphold proper standards of conduct and behaviour and for the SSSC, as a
safe and effective regulator, to reaffirm clear standards of professional conduct.”
