The organisers behind this year’s Edinburgh Christmas Markets have announced they will not be hosting the event this year.
Edinburgh City Council have said they are “hugely disappointed” that Angels Event Experience, who run the popular festive attraction, have confirmed they will not be organising the markets for 2022.
It comes just weeks before the start of the annual event, which was due to run from November 19 to January 3.
The markets, which usually see around 80 stalls, a giant ferris wheel, a Christmas tree maze and Santa’s grotto, have been a main element of Scotland’s Christmas celebrations.
This year’s festivities in the capital were expected to be the first return to the full programme since the pandemic.
Edinburgh council leader Cammy Day has confirmed that “positive discussions” are now ongoing to ensure that a similar Christmas themed event can take place in the city.
“We’re hugely disappointed that Angels Event Experience Ltd have been unable to deliver on their contract to produce Edinburgh’s Christmas”, he said.
“We’re in positive ongoing discussions around ensuring that Christmas events can be successfully delivered for the city this year.”
The announcement just comes days after Market Place Europe, the organisers behind Glasgow’s Christmas Markets, confirmed they would not be hosting the city’s event this year.
