A man has been taken to hospital following a single vehicle crash on a busy motorway.

At around 4.40pm on Tuesday afternoon, a collision occurred on the M8 between Junctions One and Two at Hermiston Gait, Edinburgh.

The road was partially blocked eastbound and traffic was reported to be building at rush hour. 

A man, who was the only occupant of the vehicle involved in the crash, was taken to Edinburgh’s Royal Infirmary but his condition is currently unknown.

The road has reopened without obstruction.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Police were called at around 4.40pm on Tuesday, May 17, to a single vehicle road crash eastbound on the M8 at Hermiston Gait, Edinburgh, between Junctions Two and One.

“One man, the only occupant of the car, was taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary and his condition is currently unknown.

“The road is not obstructed and remains open, and enquiries into the crash are ongoing.”
