A woman has been rushed to hospital and 19 others have been treated by paramedics after a fire at a tenement in Edinburgh.
Fire crews extinguished the blaze in the three-storey block on Gorgie Road shortly after 9am on Tuesday morning after residents were evacuated.
Three casualties were rescued by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) teams before being passed into the care of colleagues from the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS).
At one stage, 20 people were being treated by paramedics at the scene, but a woman has since been transported to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with non-life threatening injuries, Police Scotland said.
A SFRS spokesperson added: “We were alerted at 8.52am on Tuesday, July 4 to reports of a dwelling fire in Edinburgh.
“Crews helped lead three casualties to safety before passing them into the care of SAS personnel. A total of 20 casualties are in the care of paramedics.
“Crews have extinguished the fire and currently remain on scene working to make the area safe.”
Officers are now probing the cause of the fire while four appliances remain at the scene to make the area safe.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Emergency services attended a fire at a block of flats on Gorgie Road and a woman was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with non-life threatening injuries.
“The block was evacuated while the fire was put out by the SFRS.”
They added: “Enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing.”
