Edinburgh lifeboat crews assist four casualties on island amid music event

Edinburgh lifeboat crews assisted four casualties on a Scottish island during a music event on Saturday.

RNLI Queensferry Lifeboat and HM Coastguard were first called to Cramond Island at around 4.29pm after reports of a woman with an ankle injury.

Locating the first casualty “proved challenging” due to the crowds of people attending the Cramond Isle of Punk music event.

Crews found the injured woman on a rocky slope at the north of the island.

As treatment was being provided to a suspected lower leg fracture, and evacuation was being arranged, crews were made aware of an unconscious individual at a different part of the island.

Locating the second woman “proved tricky” due to the ongoing event. However, once found, she came around after receiving oxygen and evacuation to an awaiting ambulance at Cramond Village was arranged.

Whilst waiting for a helicopter to assist the first casualty, crews were alerted to an individual with a head injury, but it was determined that they did not require any further medical assistance.

The woman with the leg injury was evacuated via a Coastguard helicopter.

As crews were preparing to leave the island, an individual presented themselves to the team complaining of back pain after reportedly falling from a height.

They were assessed and advised to attend A&E when possible.

The team was stood down and returned to the station at around 8pm.
