Police have launched an appeal three months on from a serious assault in Edinburgh which left a man hospitalised.

The 46-year-old man was seriously injured following the attack on Frederick Street on Wednesday, February 2 around 1.25am.

Officers carried out initial enquiries but were unable to trace anyone who witnessed the incident.

An image has now been released of a man detectives say can assist in their enquiries.

He is described as white, in his mid twenties, of medium build and with short dark hair.

At the time of the attack, shortly after the image was taken, he was wearing a light blue hooded sweatshirt with an insignia in the top left chest.

Police have urged the man or anyone who knows him to come forward and share information with officers as soon as possible.

Detective Constable Melissa Silva, from Edinburgh CID, said: “I am asking that the man pictured makes contact with the police in order that further enquiries can be conducted.

“I am also asking that if any member of the public recognises the man that they make contact with the police.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 and quote incident 0161 of February 2, 2022 or make an anonymous report through the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
