An Edinburgh writer has been nominated for the prestigious Dylan Thomas prize from Swansea University.
Canadian born Camilla Grudova has been named on the longlist for the £20,000 prize for her collection of short stories entitled The Coiled Serpent.
Based in Edinburgh, Grudova’s stories take the reader through a ‘series of surreal tales’ that ‘expose the absurdity behind contemporary ideas of work, Britishness and art-making’.
She was also nominated for the Granta Best Young British Novelist award in 2023 and now joins a list of 12 candidates for the prize.
Published by Atlantic Books, The Coiled Serpent follows her critically acclaimed short story collection The Doll’s Alphabet which came out in 2017.
She was also on the longlist for the Women’s Prize for Fiction for her novel Children of Paradise from 2022.
The nominations include writers from the novel, short story and poetry genres with authors hailing from the UK, US, Canada and Hong Kong among others.
The Scottish-based writer will aim to be on the shortlist when it is announced on Thursday, March 21.
The winners ceremony for the Dylan Thomas prize, named after the famous Welsh poet and writer, will be held in Swansea on Thursday, May 16.
