Edinburgh Zoo has announced the death of a much-loved cheetah.
Domino died at the age of five following a short illness related to kidney disease, the zoo said in a statement.
The zoo added that a decision was made to put the female cheetah to sleep on Tuesday on veterinary advice.
Domino arrived at Edinburgh Zoo from Zoo de Cerza, France, in 2025 in the hopes that she would have cubs with male cheetah Billy.
A spokeperson for Edinburgh Zoo said: “Despite the dedicated efforts of our veterinary and keeper teams, the decision was made to put her to sleep on Tuesday afternoon on veterinary advice.
“Domino arrived at Edinburgh Zoo from Zoo de Cerza, France, in 2025 and was a wonderful, charismatic ambassador for her wild relatives.
“She brought joy to us all, especially her keepers.”
According to the Cheetah Conservation Fund, chronic kidney disease is commonly seen in captive cheetahs as well as domestic cats.
