Edinburgh Zoo has welcomed a third capybara to its growing herd.

The latest resident, 11-month-old Rodney, will join roommates Luna and Cali, who arrived in February.

Rodney rose to fame on TikTok last year after being the only pup (also affectionately known as a babybara) born to mum Hoodoo at Dartmoor Zoo.

The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland is slowly introducing Rodney to Luna and Cali in the hopes that they will have “babybaras” of their own in the future.

Capybaras, which are the largest rodents in the world, have quickly become a favourite among animal lovers worldwide.

Native to South America, capybaras grow up to 1.3m long, can weigh around 60kg, and typically live for eight to ten years.

They are herbivores and semi-aquatic, which means they are capable swimmers and can run up to 35km/h on land.

Capybaras are very social creatures, they have been seen living in groups as big as 100 but usually there are around 10-20 in a herd.

Tickets for Edinburgh Zoo can be purchased online here.
