Edinburgh's Grassmarket closed due to ongoing flat fire

Emergency services were alerted to the blaze at a property on Heriot Bridge at around 10.40am.

The Grassmarket in Edinburgh has been closed due to an ongoing flat fire.

Emergency services were alerted to the blaze at a property on Heriot Bridge at around 10.40am on Thursday.

There are three engines and one height appliance in attendance, fire crews have been seen on the balcony of a top floor flat.

Multiple ambulances, including an incident response vehicle, are at the scene.

It is unknown if anyone has suffered any injuries.

The public has been urged to avoid the area.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Grassmarket in Edinburgh is closed following a report of a fire at a property on Heriot Bridge, reported to police around 10.40am on Thursday, December 11.

“Emergency services are in attendance and the public is advised to avoid the area.”
