Emergency services extinguish huge fire that engulfed paper mill in Fife

Firefighters will remain at the scene on Glenwood Road, Leslie, until the area is made safe.

Firefighters have extinguished a large blaze at a paper mill in Fife.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed 13 appliances and 48 firefighters from Glenrothes, Methil, Lochgelly, Kirkcaldy and Cupar were called to Sapphire Paper Mill on Glenwood Road, Leslie, at around 5.15am on Tuesday.

People were asked to avoid the area and to keep the windows and doors of nearby homes closed.

On Wednesday, a spokesperson confirmed the fire had been extinguished, and no casualties were reported.

One appliance remains at the scene until the area is made safe.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed: “We were alerted at 5.14am on Tuesday, December 10 to reports of a large building fire on Glenwood Road in Leslie, Fife.

“The fire has now been extinguished, and one appliance remains at the scene.

“There are no reported casualties, and firefighters will remain at the scene until the area is made safe.”
