A teacher who sent “flirtatious” text messages to a pupil has been banned from the profession.
The secondary school teacher, who has been granted anonymity, was employed by Fife Council between May 16, 2015 and June 26, 2015, when he attempted to form a romantic relationship with a pupil.
The General Teaching Council for Scotland found that the teacher had followed the pupil on Twitter using his personal account.
He then went on to request the pupil’s mobile number and repeatedly sent messages of a “flirtatious nature”.
A report detailing the reasons for the teacher being struck off outlined that the actions were “indicative of a close personal relationship with the pupil which did breach the boundaries of a teacher/pupil relationship”.
It added this was “indicative of an attempt to form a romantic relationship with the pupil.”
It was concluded that the teacher’s fitness to teach is impaired and he is unfit to teach. He has been removed from the teaching register.
