Fire breaks out at former nightclub for second time this year

The nightclub closed in 2019 and now-withdrawn plans were approved by the council to turn the building into flats.

Emergency services were called after an early morning fire broke out at a former nightclub in Kirkcaldy.

Three fire crews rushed to the scene at the now-closed Kitty’s nightclub on Hunter Street shortly before 8am on Monday morning.

There are no reported casualties and crews remain in attendance to ensure that the area is safe.

It is the second time this year that the derelict building has been ablaze.

In March, fire crews were called after a huge fire broke out in the same location.

The venue closed in 2019 and plans were approved by Fife Council to turn the building into flats.

However, the plans have been withdrawn and the property has been put on the market again as a nightclub or redevelopment opportunity.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 7.58am on Monday, August 7 to reports of a building fire on Hunter Street, Kirkcaldy.

“Operations Control mobilised three appliances to the scene to extinguish the fire affecting a derelict building.

“There are no reported casualties.

“Crews remain in attendance to make the area safe.”
