Firefighters are still tackling a blaze at Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh, five days after it broke out.

Crews were called to the scene at Holyrood Park on Sunday afternoon as smoke could be seen for miles.

Four appliances were mobilised to the hillside after the alarm was raised at around 4pm.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service area commander has said it is likely the blaze was caused by a person.

Specialist resources were used as crews worked to extinguish the blaze, which affected a large area of gorse.

The SFRS confirmed they were still in attendance on Friday as they continue to dampen down hotspots.

Members of the public have been reminded to avoid the area and told there is no need to alert the control room, who have been receiving a large amount of calls.

A spokesperson for SFRS said: “Crews remain in attendance at a fire in the open at Arthur’s Seat, Holyrood Park, Edinburgh.

“Firefighters are continuing to dampen down hotspots, and we ask members of the public to avoid the area.

“Additionally, there is no longer a need to alert our Operations Control room about this fire, as we are receiving a number of calls about this incident.”
