A firefighter and a member of the public have been taken to hospital after a fire took hold of a flat in Edinburgh.
Emergency services were alerted to the blaze at a property on Heriot Bridge at around 10.28am on Thursday morning.
The Grassmarket was closed by police officers due to the incident, however, it has since reopened.
Four engines were sent to the scene, one of which was a height appliance. Fire crews were seen on the balcony located on the top floor of the building.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that one engine remains on the scene.
Two men have been taken to hospital for treatment. A member of the public suffered from smoke inhalation, and a firefighter was left with minor injuries following the incident
STV NewsDetectives are not treating the fire as suspicious.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Grassmarket has reopened following a fire at a property on Heriot Bridge, reported to police around 10.40am on Thursday, December 11.
“Emergency services attended and the fire was out by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
“Two men were taken to hospital for treatment. The fire is not being treated as suspicious.
“Thank you to the public for their patience.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10.28am on Thursday, December 11 to reports of a building fire in Edinburgh.
“Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the city’s Heriot Bridge, and firefighters extinguished the fire.
“Two casualties were taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by the Scottish Ambulance Service. This included one member of the public who suffered smoke inhalation and one firefighter who is receiving treatment for minor injuries sustained at the scene.
“Crews have now left the scene after ensuring the area was safe.”
