Firefighters battle blaze at block of flats as roads closed

Firefighters are tackling a blaze at a block of flats in Edinburgh, with surrounding roads closed.

Emergency services were called to the fire at the block in the Whitson Road area around 10.45am on Monday.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed three appliances and a number of additional resources are on scene.

Whitson Road and the surrounding access roads are currently closed.

Members of the public are asked to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We are currently in attendance at a fire affecting a block of flats on Whitson Road, Edinburgh.

“Three fire appliances and a number of additional resources are in attendance.

“Road closures are currently in place, and people are being advised to avoid the area at this time.”
