Firefighters are battling a “well-developed” blaze at a derelict hotel building in Falkirk.

Six fire engines and one-height vehicle were sent to Airth Castle Hotel at 1am on Monday.

As of 9am on Monday, firefighters remain at the scene.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said no casualties were reported.

The popular Falkirk hotel closed in 2023 over “unmanageable debts” and the building has since been subject to break-ins and vandalism.

The Castle, which dates back to the 14th century, was once owned by the family of Robert the Bruce.

Since 2004, it has been used as a popular luxury venue for weddings, private parties and exclusive events as well as for its spa and grill restaurant.

Police Scotland said in June that it had upped patrols in the area due to anti-social behaviour and fire-raising at the site.

An SFRS spokesperson said: “We are still in attendance at a fire within a two-storey derelict former hotel building in Airth, Falkirk.

“Four appliances remain on scene after the initial call came in just after 1am on Monday, 23 September.

“There are no reports of any casualties and currently there is no threat to the local community.

“Nearby residents may have seen water supplies impacted as we required increased levels of water to assist in tackling the fire.

“We will remain on scene until the incident is brought to a safe conclusion.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1.40am on Monday, Septembe 23, we were called to a report of a fire at a building at Airth Castle.

“Enquiries will be carried out with Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to establish the cause of the fire.”
