Firefighters remain at the scene of a fire at a landfill site in Fife two days after it broke out.

Four fire engines and a height vehicle are at the scene of the blaze at the Lower Melville Wood site near Ladybank.

Emergency services were first called around 1.30pm on Tuesday.

At the height of the incident, 12 appliances and specialist resources were dealing with the blaze.

Locals are being urged to keep their windows and doors closed due to the level of smoke in the area.

No casualties have been reported.

Fife Council said the facility will remain closed while emergency services continue their work and warned there may be some short-term disruption to bin collections.

A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “Four appliances and one height vehicle remain at the scene of a fire at a landfill site near Ladybank, Fife.

“Due to smoke in the area, if you live nearby, please close your windows and doors as a precaution.

“There are no reported casualties, and crews remain at the scene.”
