Five people have been injured after a car slid down an embankment and crashed near train tracks.
Two have been taken to hospital following the incident that took place near Lindores in Fife at around 2.20pm on Monday.
Emergency services, including three fire engines and a heavy rescue unit, were called to the scene and are attempting to remove the car as safely as possible.
The line between Ladybank and Perth has been closed as a result with other routes between Edinburgh, Perth and Inverness also impacted.
The British Transport Police said they are investigating the incident and described the people injured as “walking wounded”.
A BTP spokesman said: “Officers were called to the line in Lindores at 2.18pm on Monday following reports that a vehicle had slid down an embankment, close to the tracks.
“Five people are believed to be walking wounded.
“Two of those are being taken to hospital for treatment to minor injuries and officers remain on scene.”
ScotRail confirmed the line has been closed.
The firm wrote on social media: “The line between Ladybank & Perth is closed following a road accident near the railway.
“This doesn’t affect our services to/from Aberdeen, but it does impact trains between Edinburgh, Perth & Inverness.”
And Network Rail said: “Our staff are responding to reports of a road vehicle on the railway between Ladybank and Perth.
“We’ve closed the line while the emergency services attend and the vehicle is removed.
“The vehicle is currently stuck on an embankment above the railway, posing a risk of falling onto the track.
“We’re working with @fire_scot to find a way to safely retrieve it.”
A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 2.18pm on Monday, November 15, to reports of a vehicle on the railway embankment near the B937 south of Cupar.
“Operations control immediately mobilised three fire engines and a heavy rescue unit to the scene where they are working alongside Network Rail and emergency service partners.”
