Six people have been arrested in connection with the “targeted” abduction of a man in Edinburgh.

Police say around 10.30pm on Thursday, officers received a report that a man had been abducted in the Canonmills area of the city.

A 22-year-old man was later traced in the Longniddry area of East Lothian on Friday and taken to hospital as a precaution.

Five men – aged 21, 21, 22, 23 and 45 – and a 40-year-old woman have been arrested and extensive enquiries remain ongoing.

The A198 remains closed between Coal Road and the junction for Cunningham Court and a diversion is in place.

Officers believe it was a targeted incident and there is no risk to the wider public.

Detective Inspector Robbie Wallace said: “We understand an incident of this nature will be concerning but please be assured our enquiries are ongoing.

“Police will remain in the Longniddry area while this investigation continues, and anyone with any concerns or information can approach these officers.”
