Former janitor, 81, who died after hit and run in Blackburn was 'loving family man'

An elderly man who died in hospital after being struck by a motorbike in a hit and run in West Lothian has been remembered as a ‘loving family man’.

The 81-year-old, who has been named as local man William Brown, was crossing Bathgate Road in Blackburn with a walking frame around 7.15pm on Friday, July 12 when he was struck.

He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he died on Tuesday, July 16.

The rider left the motorbike following the incident and made off from the scene.

In a statement his family said: “We as a family are totally devastated at the loss of William Brown (Bill) 81, former janitor at St Kentigern’s Academy.

“William was a loving family man who was a well known and respected member of the local community.”

Police said they are following a “positive line of enquiry” in tracing the rider and have urged anyone with information to come forward.

Sergeant Jen Niven from Road Policing said: “Our thoughts are with Bill’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“While we are following a positive line of enquiry, I am reappealing to anyone with information who has not yet spoken to police to please come forward.”
