The Forth Road Bridge was forced to close after police responded to an incident on Tuesday morning.
Officers closed the crossing in both directions after a report of concern for a person around 9.30am.
Drivers were urged to avoid the area or use the Queensferry Crossing.
At around 3.42pm, the bridge was cleared to fully reopen.
A Police Scotland statement read: “The Forth Road Bridge is closed in both directions after a report of concern for a person around 9.30am on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
“Motorists should avoid the area.”
An update from Traffic Scotland on X read: “The A9000 has fully reopened, however, this bridge is to be used by buses, taxis, cycles, and pedestrians only.”
