Four people have been hurt and taken to hospital after footage on social media appeared to show a man with a knife in Edinburgh.

Police said there were a “series of incidents” across the west of the city and Leith on Friday evening.

Videos online appeared to show a topless man running down the street carrying a weapon.

Other footage showed a heavy police presence in the street surrounding a man on the ground.

Police say a 36-year-old man has been arrested and enquiries are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 36-year old man has been arrested following a series of incidents at a number of locations across the West of Edinburgh, and Leith, during the evening of Friday, 19 June.

“Four people were injured and taken to hospital for treatment. Enquiries are ongoing, however, we believe there to be no further risk to the public at this time. Members of the public are thanked for their assistance.”
