A fundraiser has been launched to help care for a “tiny but determined” kitten born with a rare condition.
Boogie, who is two and a half weeks old, is currently in the care of Borders Pet Rescue based in Earlston.
He was born with swimmer syndrome, a rare condition that causes his legs to splay out, making it difficult for him to stand and walk.
He also has a flattened chest, which could lead to complications as the kitten continues to grow, as there is limited space for his organs.
While Boogie might be bright and feeding well, his future is uncertain due to his health issues.
Boogie’s mum was rescued by Protect Cats Scotland from a home in which 40 cats had been living.
She was heavily pregnant and gave birth to three kittens; however, one of them was stillborn.
She has been by Boogie’s side since from day one, as the team continues to provide support.
A fundraiser has been launched to help cover the costs of Boogie’s specialist treatments.
This includes intensive physiotherapy and ongoing veterinary assessments, which could be costly for the animal charity.
Boogie is described as a “fighter” and Borders Pet Rescue is determined to give him the best chance to live a normal life.
Kim McNeill, centre manager, said: “Boogie may be tiny, but he’s already shown us just how determined he is. Every day is a milestone for him, and we’re doing everything we can to give him the best possible chance.
“The support we’ve received has been incredible, and every donation helps us provide the specialist care he needs during these crucial early weeks.
“By sharing Boogie’s story, we hope to raise awareness of swimmer syndrome as well as the funds needed for his ongoing care.
“With early intervention and the right treatment, kittens like Boogie can have a real chance at a happy, healthy future.”
