A memorial service for boxing legend Ken Buchanan has taken place in Edinburgh.

The funeral procession passed the former world champion’s boxing club on its way to St Giles Cathedral on Tuesday morning.

Buchanan, who was Scotland’s first undisputed boxing champion, died at the age of 77 earlier this month.

Former boxing stars including Alex Arthur and Jim Watt were in attendance to pay their tributes as large crowds gathered.

Buchanan became the undisputed world lightweight champion in 1971 and was made an MBE a year later.

He was inducted into both the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the Scottish Sport Hall of Fame, while a statue of him in his home city of Edinburgh was unveiled last year.

His son revealed last year that he was suffering from dementia and living in a care home.
