Human remains ‘do not belong to any long term missing people’

Human remains found on an industrial estate do not belong to any local long term missing people, police have said.

Detectives supported by specialist scientific teams, are continuing to identify the male remains, which were discovered on Whitehill Road, Glenrothes, on September 27.

A post mortem revealed that the remains did not belong to any local long-term missing people and their families have been updated.

Enquires are continuing to establish a cause of death.

The family of Allan Bryant, who went missing in Glenrothes in 2013, have said they are “devastated” that the remains do not belong to him.

Mr Bryant was just 23 when he vanished after leaving Styx nightclub in the Fife town on November 3 2013.

He was last seen leaving the club shortly after 2am and despite extensive searches and public appeals by Mr Bryant’s family and police, he has not been seen or heard from since.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the Bryant family said: “The fight for my missing son Allan will continue.

“We are devastated that remains found on Sunday the 27 of September are not our son Allan’s.

“My family will continue to fight for justice for our son no matter what.

“I want to thank the Major Investigation Team for their continued support over the last eight days for keeping my family updated.

“My family need to come to terms with the news.

“We also want to thank you all so much for your continued support through this horrendous week.”

Detective Chief Inspector Kevin Houliston, of Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, said: “The families of long-term missing people in the local area have been informed that the remains are not those of their loved-ones and officers continue to support them at this difficult time.

“This is a complex and highly intricate investigation and we’re working to find out who this is and how they came to be there.

“The death remains unexplained but if anyone has any information that may help our enquiries then please call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 2692 of Sunday, September 27, 2020.”
