Hunt for driver after child, ten, struck by car in hit-and-run

Police are hunting for a driver after a child was knocked down by a car in a hit-and-run in Midlothian.

Officers are appealing for the driver of a vehicle to come forward after it failed to stop on Mauricewood Road, Penicuik at around 8.40am on Thursday.

The vehicle, which officers say may have been a Citroen Cactus, was travelling south approaching the junction with Boyd-Orr Drive.

The ten-year-old boy suffered an arm injury which was assessed at a hospital after he was struck by the car.

The vehicle involved is described as a red or orange car, possibly with markings on the side. The driver was believed to be female.

PC Ross Young said: “The driver will have been aware they hit the child, and thankfully, he sustained only minor injuries.

“The car could have been like a Citroen Cactus, but the make and model are not confirmed.

“I’d ask anyone who saw what happened, or who was driving on Mauricewood Road around the time and witnessed the vehicle, to come forward.”
