Hunt for driver who hit pedestrian while being pursued by police

A 47-year-old man was seriously injured after being struck by a car that was being chased by police in Edinburgh.

Police are hunting for a driver who hit a pedestrian while being pursued by officers in Edinburgh.

The blue Vauxhall Corsa failed to stop for officers on Newington Road around 12.55pm on Wednesday and was subsequently pursued.

During the chase, the car struck a pedestrian at the junction of Liberton Road and Gilmerton Road before continuing south on Gilmerton Road.

It was found abandoned a short distance away on Glenallan Drive.

The pedestrian, a 47-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

Police are now searching for the driver and have urged any witnesses the come forward.

Sergeant Grant Hastie said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and trace those responsible.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed the crash, or saw a blue Vauxhall Corsa in the area beforehand or afterwards, to come forward.

“We are also keen to speak to anyone with dash-cam or private CCTV footage that may assist our investigation.”
