Hunt for four suspects after man shot dead in 'targeted murder' in Armadale

Police are hunting for four men after a 35-year-old was shot dead in a “targeted” murder in Armadale.

Emergency services were called to reports of an injured man at an address on Harestanes Road at around 11.50am on Saturday, September 12.

A 35-year-old man, now named as Billy Watson from the local area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Wednesday, police confirmed a 57-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death, which is being treated as a targeted murder.

Detectives say a post-mortem revealed Mr Watson suffered fatal injuries consistent with being shot by a firearm.

Officers are investigating the movements of two vehicles, a blue BMW car and a black Vauxhall Mokka, which were seen on Harestanes Road around the time of the shooting.

The vehicles were later recovered and are undergoing forensic analysis.

Anyone with a doorbell, dash-cam, or CCTV footage from the area around that time is urged to review the footage to see if they captured the vehicles.

Officers are also appealing for information on four men who were seen in the area at the time.

Detective superintendent Michelle Findlay said: “We are continuing to offer Billy’s family support as the investigation progresses.

“They are understandably shocked and devastated by what has happened. It’s imperative to establish why he was killed and get answers for his family and friends.

“I’m keen to hear from anyone who may have information regarding the events in Hairstanes Road. Of particular interest to us is any information on the BMW and Mokka cars or the four men.

“Please don’t assume we know the information, and no matter how insignificant you think it is, please let us be the judge and pass the information on.”

Superintendent Jocelyn Thomas added: “We understand the local community is concerned by what has happened, however we believe this was a targeted attack.

“I want to reassure everyone that these incidents are rare. Let me be clear, the use of firearms will not be tolerated.

“We work tirelessly every day to disrupt the activities of those involved in this type of criminality. An increased police presence will remain in the area as we continue our enquiries and anyone with concerns can speak to these officers. Your information really can make a difference.”
