'Keep windows and doors closed': Firefighters tackle blaze in storage warehouse

Residents are being urged to keep windows and doors locked due to smoke levels in the area.

Firefighters have extinguished large blaze at a storage warehouse in East Lothian with significant damage done by the fire.

Nine appliances were sent to the scene of the fire on Musselburgh’s Eskmills Road near Station Road after midnight on Tuesday.

The fire began in a storage warehouse, according to East Lothian Council, but there are said to be no reported injuries.

Residents are being urged to keep windows and doors locked due to smoke levels in the area.

Images from the scene showed significant damage done to the roof and brickwork of the warehouse.

Members of the public are being urged to avoid the area with roads closed.

A Police Scotland statement read: “Around 12.30am on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, we were made aware of a fire at a premises on Station Road in Musselburgh.

“Emergency services are at the scene and the public is urged to avoid the area.

“Local residents and businesses should keep windows and doors closed.

“A number of roads have also been closed from the Newhailes Road Roundabout to Inveresk Road.

“Drivers and pedestrians are urged to avoid the area.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 00.25am on Tuesday, March 11 to reports of a building fire within the Musselburgh area.

“At its height, Operations Control mobilised nine appliances to the town’s Eskmills Road.

“The fire is now extinguished, and two appliances now remain at the scene, where firefighters are working to make the area safe.

“There are no reported casualties.”

East Lothian Council said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service continue to be in attendance at a fire within a storage warehouse on Musselburgh’s Eskmills Road/Station Road.

“Emergency services are at the scene with members of the public urged to avoid the area.

“People in nearby homes and businesses are asked to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke levels at the current time.

“At this time, local schools are expected to be open as normal. However, children, parents/carers and staff will need to avoid the road between the Newhailes Roundabout to Inveresk Road.

“There is likely to be longer than normal journey times.”
