The self-proclaimed king of an “African tribe” living in the woods near Jedburgh has been detained by the Home Office on suspicion of immigration offences.

The group, which names itself the Kingdom of Kubala, were evicted and banned from moving back to the private land.

The trio consists of Kofi Offeh, 36, who goes by King Atehene, his wife Jean Gasho, 43, who calls herself Queen Nandi, and “handmaiden” Kaura Taylor, 21, who goes by Asnat.

On Thursday, the three were evicted from the woods they have been living in since May.

The eviction, streamed live on TikTok, showed Offeh and Taylor being taken into vans with immigration and police officers also on the scene.

The pair were both arrested on suspicion of immigration offences. But Taylor, who was reported as missing by her family in Texas, has been released without charge.

Offeh, who is Ghanaian, has been detained by Immigration Enforcement pending further action.
