The king of a self-proclaimed African tribe who spent months in the woods in the Scottish Borders has been deported to Ghana.

The self-titled Kingdom of Kubala were evicted from private land in Jedburgh in October last year after spending months in a wooded area.

Kofi Offeh, known as King Atehene, was arrested after officers from Immigration Enforcement and Police Scotland attended the site.

An American female, named Kaura Taylor, who goes by the name Asnat, was also arrested on suspicion of immigration offences.

It has been confirmed that Offeh was deported to Ghana, and local media reported his arrival at Accra International Airport on April 22.

Who are the Kingdom of Kubala?

Offeh and Taylor, alongside Jean Gasho, known as Queen Nandi, made global news after sharing their lives through social media, sparking backlash from locals and forcing authorities to respond.

Several incidents were reported in the woods, including fires and altercations. They also received food and gifts from supporters.

The Kingdom of Kubala said the land was rightfully theirs and that they were reclaiming what was taken from their ancestors 400 years ago.

A number of eviction notices were served to the group, who said they did not recognise the courts.

When served with a notice to vacate in September 2025, they moved their campsite some yards away over a fence to a neighbouring plot of land owned by the council.

It was then ruled that the trio would not be able to return to the original plot of land from which they were evicted.
